Synopsis

The BW-Reel programme comprises animated films from Baden-Württemberg which were produced last year and shows the diversity of the Baden-Württemberg animation scene.

The Gruffalo

Directed by Jakob Schuh, Max Lang

A half hour animated film based on the classic children’s picture book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the Gruffalo tells the magical tale of a mouse who takes a walk through the woods in search of a nut.

Lebensader

Directed by Angela Steffen

A little girl finds the whole world in leaf.

Prediger / Preachers

Directed by Jochen Kuhn

An elegy about preachers of higher truths.

Mercury Bird

Directed by Ina Findeisen

Five animals live in a clearing in the woods: a fox, a badger, a mole and a mother panda with her cub. The youngest, the little panda, is not allowed to help because it is too little and too weak. One day he finds a luminous egg with a bird hatching out of it.

Webciety

Directed by Leander Brinkmann, Tina Rauschenbach

In an era where the internet is the center of it all, where distances are being shortened by virtual communication and talks over cups of coffee are replaced by chat rooms and social networks; what happens to humanity?

Hat

Directed by Michael Fragstein

"Hat” presents an enigmatic story of love, discovery and loss, a sense of home and growing up. Foresaking linearity and coherence, a narrative is conveyed through fleeting glimpses, allowing a subtle landscape of emotion and memory to emerge, its contours defined by thick, soft lines.

Flapflap

Directed by Ilija Brunck

What started out as a protest against the rather strange selection of short films some festivals have, soon turned out to become a small but detailed vision of what can happen if you mess around with the wrong guys.

Formic

Directed by Roman Kälin, Florian Wittmann

A film about a skater and an ant.

Der Kleine Und Das Biest / The Little Boy and The Beast

Directed by Johannes Weiland, Uwe Heidschötter

Since Haro’s Dad left home his mother has completely changed. She isn’t able to play with him properly anymore, doesn’t laugh anymore and her bad mood spreads everywhere. Haro has to deal with a lot of things on his own. Sometimes it’s great, but other times it’s truly exhausting.

Wollmond / Knitted Knights

Directed by Gil Alkabetz

Grandma has one passion – knitting. And her newest challenge is to knit a woollen sweater for the moon. Therefore she needs great skills, precise preparations, a flock of sheep and an awful lot of time.

Moblie

Directed by Verena Fels

Excluded from society, a cow takes fate in her own hands and causes quite a stir.

12 Jahre / 12 Years

Directed by Daniel Nocke

For twelve years the female Rottweiler has made no secret of her relationship with a Dachshund, as appearances have never bothered her. Now, however, the Dachshund ends the relationship.
