The Animated Short Film Initiative is an initiative from the Singapore Film Society (SFS), supported by the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA), to nurture talents in the animation industry. It supports the production of animated shorts of up to 30 minutes in length by both individuals and companies. There is no preference for animation style, whether 2D, 3D, Flash or claymation. Animation companies and independent animators are invited to submit their proposals for short film ideas in the following categories:
  • Animated Shorts with runtime of 3-15 minutes (eligible for up to S$15,000 funding per project)

  • Animated Short Film with runtime of 16-30 minutes (eligible for up to S$40,000 funding per project)
Criteria for both categories vary. Successful applicants will be expected to produce their animated short film within a year of receiving funding.

ASFI is designed to give the independent animation industry in Singapore a major boost, by providing funds to help animators and studios here to work on stand-alone, short-form animated films. Proposals will be judged based on originality of concept, quality of story and designs, track record of the applicants and their ability and commitment to manage and deliver the project. The vision is for local animators to create high quality short films that can be showcased in festivals and markets around the world.
